The Art Gallery of Peterborough is located on the traditional territory of the Michi Sagiig Anishinaabe in the territory covered by the Williams Treaty, Treaty 20.

We are a non-profit public gallery with an over forty year history of groundbreaking exhibitions and programs. Located in the City of Peterborough, we are rooted in the Kawartha region and make significant contributions to local culture while actively participating in the broader national discourse.

Mandate

Our goal is to present contemporary visual art by artists from the region and across the nation. Some historical and international works are also shown. The exhibitions are supported by programs including lectures, workshops, and publications. We make curatorial choices in selecting the work for each particular exhibition, whether it is featured in the main gallery or in the smaller exhibition areas.

Vision

A gathering place that engages the community and promotes the arts as a cornerstone of community creativity and development.

Mission

As an exhibition venue with educational programs, the AGP will present a variety of visual art experiences and explorations to stimulate and expand public perception of art as a part of our life and community.

Volunteer with us!

Are you interested in volunteering as part of our Art Education Team?

We have exciting volunteer opportunities for youth (ages 14 - 17) to join our Youth Volunteer Team.

Become a Youth Volunteer! You’ll gain leadership experience in a creative and fun environment, make new friends and some art, too. Most importantly, you’ll be supporting the arts and arts education in our community. AGP Youth Volunteers will learn to work in a team and have an opportunity to support professional artists in a creative space, assisting with Children's Art Programs.

General Requirements:

In addition to the following application, each applicant will be required to attend an interview as well as mandatory orientation and training with gallery staff prior to commencing volunteer service.

Please Note: We receive a high number of applications and we have a limited number of volunteer placement opportunities. Because of this, only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.

If you are a post-secondary or high school student looking for placement hours, please do not fill out this application. Contact AGP Education Programming Coordinator, Andrew Ihamaki, aihamaki@peterborough.ca

Apply to exhibit in the Main or Ramp galleries

Application deadline: ongoing

The Art Gallery of Peterborough is located on the traditional territory of the Michi Sagiig Anishinaabe in the territory covered by the Williams Treaty, Treaty 20.

We accept submissions on an ongoing basis from artists and guest curators for the main and ramp galleries. A floor plan of the main gallery is available for download on our website here. Exhibitions are reviewed on an on-going basis and the process can take time. We recognize and appreciate the work required to prepare submissions. Studio visits may be part of the selection process.

Selected artists are supported in the development of their exhibition by the Curator and provided contracts, CARFAC fees that meet or exceed minimums, letters of support for funding applications, fine art shipping, insurance, travel, hospitality, hotel, promotional materials, and documentation. Artists are encouraged to be involved in the exhibition installation plan which is completed by a trained professional installation crew.

We present approximately 16 exhibitions per year: 4 are developed for the main gallery, 8 for the ramp galleries, and 4 from the Permanent Collection of work by established and emerging artists.

The AGP strives to reflect the whole of our community through our programs and operations. We continue to seek major exhibitions and projects that support the work of BIPOC artists, curators and performers.

Please note:

Due to higher than normal volume of submissions, responses may take several months.
